ADHD Assessment
Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) is a neurodevelopmental condition, meaning that you’re either born with it or develop symptoms in early childhood. It can present with inattentive symptoms (e.g., distractibility, forgetfulness, organisational difficulties) or hyperactive/ impulsive symptoms (e.g., fidgeting, restlessness, impatience), or both.
Assessment of adult ADHD takes several sessions (usually 3-4). The assessment includes:
- Background history (including education, employment, family & relationship history, mental and physical health)
- ADHD symptoms (in adulthood and as a child) using the DIVA-5 assessment interview
- Developmental history (pregnancy/birth, milestones, etc)
- Screening assessment of other conditions which could cause or contribute to ADHD symptoms (e.g., anxiety, mood disorders, PTSD, ASD, dyslexia or other learning difficulties)
Assessment information can be collected in several ways:
- Questionnaires
- Clinical interview
- Corroborative interview(s) with partner, parent, sibling or close friend
- Review of school reports/ medical reports (if available)
The assessment can be completed in person, online via zoom, or a combination of both. Conversations with someone who knows you well (such as a parent or partner) can be via an in-person interview, on zoom, by telephone or email.
Once your assessment is complete, we will meet to discuss the findings, and to talk through your diagnostic report and recommendations. A draft copy of the report is then sent to you to read through, before the final copy goes out to you and your GP.
The total cost for an ADHD assessment and diagnostic report is £1600. This can be paid in two instalments, one of £800 payable at your first appointment, and a second payment of £800 payable at your feedback session. Should you have private medical insurance, contact your insurer directly to enquire whether they fund ADHD assessments.
If you are diagnosed with ADHD and wish to consider appropriate medication, you would need a further appointment with a psychiatrist, who is able to prescribe medication. Once you have found a medication which works for you, you can usually ask your GP to provide repeat prescriptions.
Testimonials
“Ceara has been very thorough in her research re my ADHD enquiry. At 51 years old this was a very
scary process for me, Ceara led me calmly to my diagnosis. What she revealed to me was exactly
how I have felt for years, but unable to put into words, ‘wading through treacle’ but now it made
sense. I am now at the beginning of rediscovering myself. I am not lazy, intentionally forgetful or
stupid. I am intelligent, sensitive and creative. Thank you Ceara for showing me these qualities.”
Mrs E., Adult ADHD assessment
“In my 30 years of being slightly nutty, I can honestly say that my experience with you has been one of
the most natural, enjoyable and useful. The report looks accurate and useful… it goes way beyond
the binary outcome I was initially expecting and there’s years’ worth of ideas and material that I intend
to use. Thank you for everything you do for myself and others.”
